Sub-regional officer of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh

Solapur : NpNews24 Online  –   Citizens had filed a complaint against a sugar factory in Solapur. In order not to act on this complaint, the Sub-Regional Officer of the Pollution Control Board demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs from the officer of the factory. A complaint was filed with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in this regard. Accordingly, the ACB took action and arrested the corrupt sub-regional officer.

 

The arrested has been identified as Ajit Vasantrao Patil (50). The administration officials of Solapur Sugar Factory had filed a complaint against him. According to the ACB, Patil had helped the complainant to renew the consent to operate the license of the distillery unit of the sugar factory. In exchange for compensation and to submit a proposal to the senior office for consents to establish a pharmaceutical unit for not to act on the complaints given by the citizens due to air and water pollution from the factory, he demanded the bribe. Accordingly, the ACB laid a trap and arrested bribe-taking officer Ajit Patil red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2 lakhs.
