SPPU Prof Santishree Pandit appointed Vice Chancellor of JNU

Pune : NpNews24 Online –  Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Professor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has made history. She has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her term will last for five years. The university has got its first woman vice chancellor after this appointment.

 

Prof Pandit is being congratulated for her achievement. Outgoing JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar has been appointed as the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The position became vacant after his appointment to the UGC.

 

Prof Pandit is currently working in the Politics and Public Administration Department of the SPPU. She has been teaching in the university for the past 29 years.

 

She started her career as a teacher in Goa University. She joined the then Pune University in 1993. She has handled various responsible positions in the SPPU. She was also appointed as a member of the UGC and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). She has guided 29 PhD students till date.

 

Pandit is a graduate in History and a graduate in Social Psychology from Presidency College, Chennai. She also did a diploma in Social Work from the California University, USA. She was also a student of the JNU, where she did her MPhil in International Relations and later earned a doctorate in the same subject. President Ramnath Kovind approved her appointment, said an officer from the Union Education Ministry.

 

Earlier, M Jagadesh Kumar formally announced Santishree Pandit’s appointment. He said, “I am happy to announce that Prof Santishree Pandit from the SPPU Politics and Public Administration Department has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of JNU. She will be the first woman VC of the university. I congratulate her. I will hand over charge of the office to her today.”
