Special tips shared by doctor to keep yourself happy during periods

Mumbai : When you think of a period, what comes to your mind? Bleeding, cramps, sickness and lack of energy. We have to face all these inconveniences every month. Not only physically, but they also affect us mentally. You may have to face stress, anxiety or sadness due to mood swings that occur during menstruation.

Periods occur when you shed the lining of the uterus and other blood after your ovulated egg is not fertilized. The uterine lining is no longer needed for an embryo to implant to for pregnancy. Before a period begins, the cells that form the lining of the uterus, also called endometrial cells, begin to break down during menstruation and release large amounts of inflammatory prostaglandins. These constrict the blood vessels in the uterus and make the muscle layer contract, causing painful cramps.

This pain is usually uncomfortable and can affect your mood, which can also affect your daily work.

But there are actually some ways you can control your emotions during your periods and keep yourself happy. Gynecologist Dr. Aruna Kalra shares  some tips and tricks that can help you feel happy during that time of the month –

1. Exercise
Exercise is a great way to improve your mood. Because when you feel healthy, you feel happy. Focus on both physical and mental exercises. Easy exercises like yoga, walking or stretching can help you feel good. For best results, always remember these two tricks :

– Do not skip the exercise routine
– Take a deep breath and meditate

2. Diet
When you eat enough and the right food, it helps to reduce cramps by themselves. Follow these diet tips to increase your happy hormones during your periods :

– Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. You can have smoothies and soups etc. They make your body feel fresh and help you manage your mood.

– Eat high fiber food. You can include cooked vegetables, raita, porridge etc. in your food.

– Take Analgesic Drug if needed. There is no harm to your fertility if you take pain killers.

3. Sex
Try to maintain healthy love making even during periods. Love making helps to release happy hormones resulting in a good mood during periods. In these days of the month, many thoughts are on your mind about having sex, due to which you are unable to prepare yourself for it. Although this is normal.

4. Hygiene
The hygiene that is required during the periods is called period hygiene. Replace the sanitary napkin / tampon or menstrual cup at least twice a day. Avoid repeated use of vaginal wash. It kills your protective vaginal flora, increasing your chances of vaginal and urinary infections.

Remember these few tips and tricks for your next menstrual cycle. Erase all your fears about periods because it is your right to be happy in every situation.
