Special Postage Stamp Unveiled mark 350th coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Special gold and silver coins release also under consideration: Governor Ramesh Bais

Mumbai : Maharashtra Governor his excellency Ramesh Bais said here today, “The peoples’ king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the great hero of all India. Efforts should be made to issue gold and silver currency on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of Maharaja’s coronation day.”

Shri. Bais was speaking on the occasion of the release of a special postage stamp by the Department of Cultural Affairs to mark the 350th year of Shivaji’s Coronation that was unveiled by Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Assembly Speaker Adv Rahul Narvekar, Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Tourism Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Cultural Affairs Department Principal Secretary Vikas Kharge, Governor’s Principal Secretary Kumar Santosh, Mumbai Region Post Master General Swati Pandey and others were present on the stage.

Governor Shri. Bais said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the most popular king due to his foresight, love of justice, delivering justice to the common people and awakening a new consciousness among them. “By preparing his own armoury, he took responsibility for the protection of Swarajya. Following his example, various leaders from Maharashtra led the freedom movement. Efforts should be made to preserve and conserve the forts of his time. Special gold and silver medals were issued during the creation of Maharashtra state in 1960. Now also, such efforts should be made on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of Coronation Day,” Shri. Bais said.

Chief Minister Mr. Shinde said that the special stamp unveiling on the occasion of the Coronation Day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a tribute to the achievements of the Maharaj. “Shivaji Maharaj performed the coronation in order to instill confidence in the minds of his subjects. The state government is working while keeping before it the ideals set by Shiv Chhatrapati to work for the welfare of the people. We are providing various benefits to the citizens through the ‘Government at Your Doorstep’ initiative. Raigad is being preserved and conserved. Along with that, it was decided to give Rs. 50 crores for the Shiv Srishti program. Priority is being given to the preservation of the forts in the state,” Shri Shinde said, adding that all necessary state support would be provided.

The maharashtra Chief minister further noted, “I was fortunate to attend Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s 350th Coronation Day celebrations at Raigad Fort. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was an ideal king, skilled organizer and administrator. He was an unusual man who was ably supported by the Mawla community that would lay down their lives for him. That’s why he made history.”

He noted that the state government was working to translate the thoughts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj into reality even today. He added that various programs for this are scheduled in the coming year.

He further said, “Aurangabad was renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. It was decided to name the coastal road after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The state government has taken the role of helping workers, farmers and women. 29 irrigation projects in the state have been approved so six lakh hectares area is brought under irrigation. We are trying to run the state keeping in mind the ideals set by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”

Deputy Chief Minister Shri. Fadnavis said that it is a matter of happiness that special stamps were issued today. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a man of all ages. At that time Chhatrapati dreamed of creating Swarajya for Swakiya and made it a reality while many people were working under Mughals,” Shri. Fadnavis said.
