Spate of robberies despite police increase patrol in Pune

Pune: There has been a spate of thefts and robberies in the city, in which thieves have decamped with valuables such as mobile phones, jewellery and cash from citizens’ houses.

This has happened as Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has instructed the police personnel to increase patrol. A milk vendor carrying milk on his two-wheeler was accosted by thieves in Yewalewadi in the Kondhwa area and robbed him of Rs 15,000 cas.

Satish Mahadev Patil, a resident of Narhe, Ambegaon) lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station. He was carrying milk cans on his vehicle in the wee hours of Saturday (June 22) when he was stopped near KJ College by unidentified persons. He was threatened with a sharp weapon. They snatched Rs 15,000 from his pocket and escaped.

A Police Sub-Inspector is investigating.

A couple of days ago, a woman pedestrian’s bag was snatched away in the Kondhwa area. Later, two women were also robbed in the area within an hour after the bag-snatching.

Mobile phone snatched on Apte Road

Two bike-borne thieves snatched a mobile phone of a youth on Apte Road on June 21. Gaurav Vinaykumar Jaiswal (34), a resident of Kondhwa, lodged a complaint at the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station. Jaiswal was checking details of a cab he had booked on his mobile app when the thieves riding a mobike snatched his handset at around 9.30 pm on June 21. The two-wheeler they were riding did not have a registration number plate. PSI Patil is investigating the matter.

Attempt to snatch a woman’s mangalsutra at a bakery

Two chain-snatchers tried to snatch away the mangalsutra (gold chain) of a woman on the pretext of buying a chocolate. The thief ran away as she resisted the attempt. The 40-year-old woman lodged a complaint at the Sinhagad Police Station.

The complainant has a bakery-cum-general store in the Dhayari area. On Sunday evening (June 32), two bike-borne youths arrived at her shop when the complainant and her small son were present. They told her to give some chocolates. While she was counting them, the chain-snatchers tried to rob her of her mangalsutra. The woman raised the alarm and resisted their attempt. They escaped on the two-wheeler. API Nikam is investigating.
