Shady activities flourishing in high profile Koregaon Park area

PUNE: A question has arisen about what is happening in recent days in the high profile Koregaon Park area. The area which is known as an elite neighbourhood in Pune, is home to many spa and massage centres if one considers the action taken by the Social Security Cell of Pune Crime Branch. It has come to light that spa centres are flourishing in the area because of support from Koregaon Park police station. On May 13, 2023, the SSC team raided a spa centre in the area and busted a prostitution racket.

The police have rescued five women including three foreigners from the spa centre. A few days ago, on March 18, 2023, the Crime Branch officials had raided a spa centre in Koregaon Park and rescued seven girls including four foreigners. A few days later, it came to light that shady activities were going on at another spa centre and there is a suspicion that the local police are backing such activities.

The SSC of the Crime Branch had received information under the guise of running a massage centre, the girls were being forced to ply flesh trade at Health Lad Clinic, Thai Spa and Health Spot clinic, Thai Spa, Koregaon Park. The police sent a decoy customer to a spa centre to verify the information. He informed the SSC that prostitution racket was being operated from the spa centre. Later, under the guidance of senior police officers, a team of SSC raided the spa centre. Five girls including three foreigners were rescued from the centre. The rescued girls have been kept at the Rescue Foundation.

The police have apprehended a person in this connection and an FIR has been registered against three persons at the Koregaon Park police station. The apprehended person has been handed over to the Koregaon Park police station.

The action was taken under the guidance of Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende by Senior PI Bharat Jadhav, API Aniket Pote, API Ashwini Patil, policewoman Manisha Pukale, Reshma Kank, policeman Ajay Rane, Sagar Kekan, Amey Rasal, Kishor Bhujbal and Omkar Kumbhar.

In the last two months, 12 girls have been rescued from such spa centres in Koregaon Park and they include seven foreigners. An action had been taken on March 18 and seven girls had been rescued. Not even two months had passed after this incident and it has come to light that similar things are happening at another spa centre. This raises a question whether such activities are taking place because of the backing from the local police.
