Restrictions on Borewells and wells

The scarcity of water is droving towards drought and to bring more restriction on water and keep a tap of water the Maharashtra State Government has brought restrictions on wells, Borewells of the State.

In any part of the State, borewells and wells should not be dig more than 60 meters (200 feet). If concerned need to dig deep for the purpose of drinking water; they will have to take permission can be taken from Central Ground Water Board. The Ground Water Act has been issued by the State’s Water Supply and Sanitation Department.

The Groundwater Development and Management Act has been passed to manage and regulate the collective involvement of the state. This act involves the increase in ground water level, quality of water, depth of the wells, sand leakage method and water recharge.

Objections and instructions have been sought for this act, said Ground Water Authority Director Shekhar Gaikwad in a press conference.

According to the new rule, the person who is having business of borewell will have to register their borewell machines. This registration is for three years and digging will not be allowed after deadline. The order will be issued by the authority to fix standards of sewage, solid waste, to protect and maintain water quality.

Ground water authority has been authorized to ban the factories, industries, Agro Processing, animal husbandry, fisheries, livestock and poultry centres, if the water source is contaminated due to untreated sewage and contamination of water.

This rule is displayed on the website of Ground Water Surveying and Development System.  Gaikwad has also appealed to citizens, concerned organizations to send their objections to the additional chief secretary, water supply and sanitation department, located at Gokuldas Tejpal hospital building, to Mumbai.

Water recharge System required

Rain water harvesting system has been mandated to reduce the level of ground water in the state (notified area). For this, the cost of structuring the water storage will be recovered from the concerned person. The new ground water law has been set up so that no permanent water supply and occupancy certificate will be received without this system.
