Rashmi Shukla gets relief from Bombay HC in phone tapping case

Mumbai : NpNews24 Online Former police chief of Pune Rashmi Shukla has got a reprieve from the Bombay HC in the phone tapping case. The Pune police have been ordered not to take strict action against Shukla till March 25.

 

An FIR has been filed against Rashmi Shukla at the Bund Garden police station in the phone tapping case. Shukla had filed a petition in the HC seeking quashing of the FIR. She has alleged that the FIR has been filed as a political vendetta.

 

The hearing on the petition filed by Shukla took place on Friday. The FIR has been filed three years after the phone tapping incident took place. Although other officers were also involved, the FIR has been filed only against her, said the HC. Later, the HC issued orders that strict action should not be taken against Shukla.

 

An FIR has been filed against Shukla under the Telegraph Act. The FIR was filed after a recommendation by the committee probing the phone tapping case. Congress state president Nana Patole had made allegations on the issue. It has been alleged that Shukla illegally tapped phones when she was the State Intelligent Commissioner. A committee had been appointed under former DGP Sanjay Pandey. The panel submitted a report to the government and a case was filed against Shukla as per a government order. The incident had created a flutter in the state.

 

Shukla had taken permission to tap phones to keep a tab on terrorists but she misused the power given to her. Some NCP leaders had alleged that Shukla had also tapped phones of some ministers of MVA.

 

Minister Nawab Malik had alleged that Shukla was working for the BJP. Later, NCP leader Jitendra Awhad had held a press conference and submitted proof to the media and also had levelled allegations against Shukla.

 

Shukla was accused of tapping phones of ministers, senior leaders and officials and supplying classified information to former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
