Rajesh Tope refutes scam allegations by Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: The National Health Mission (NHM) is being implemented by the state government with funds from the central government. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadanvis has alleged that about Rs 400 crore was embezzled in the name of making permanent appointments in the service. A complaint has been lodged in this regard by sending a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Fadnavis has also demanded an inquiry into the matter. However, state health minister Rajesh Tope has denied the allegations.
Speaking to a media channel, Rajesh Tope said that Fadnavis made allegations but the facts are not like that. Information about the contract workers raising money to accommodate the service was received from the Gadchiroli area last month. Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) Shailesh Balkwade was immediately directed to investigate. Therefore, it cannot be said that there has been any scam in this mission. I will not tolerate any corruption in the health department, Rajesh Tope has clarified on Fadnavis’ allegation. Rajesh Tope has also appealed to the employees not to fall prey to any rumors.
Rajesh Tope said that the then government had appointed a group of ministers to accommodate the National Health Mission contract staff. The then Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar was its president. The group of ministers had recommended the recruitment of contract workers. This process was started during the time of the then government.
