Rahul Gandhi hits out at Centre over rising fuel prices

Petrol crosses Rs 100-mark in many states

New Delhi: Hitting out at the Modi government over rising fuel prices, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused it of emptying the pockets of common man and filling the pockets of its friends for free.

“While re-filling oil in the car on the petrol pump, when you look at the fast-rising meter, must remember that the price of crude oil has not increased, but it has decreased. Petrol is Rs 100/liter. The Modi government is doing a great job of emptying your pockets and giving it to ‘friends’ for free!” the Congress leader tweeted.

The Congress party has accused the Centre of looting people by imposing high taxes on petrol and diesel and has demanded its rollback to provide relief to the common man from the onslaught of rising prices.

This comes in the wake of increasing fuel prices for the past so many days. In few state, the petrol prices has even crossed Ts 100-maerk.

On Sunday, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi expressed her “anguish and deep distress regarding the spiraling fuel and gas prices” and accused the government of “profiteering” off “people’s misery”.

In a three-page letter, she urged PM Modi to reduce the prices by partially rolling back excise duty, saying the truth is that as GDP “nosedives”, the prices of gas, diesel and petrol continue to rise unchecked.
