Pune : NpNews24 Online – Purandar International Airport Project | The work of the proposed international airport at Purandar is at a standstill for two years. The MVA government had taken a decision to shift the location of the airport. The decision has been changed by the present government and an announcement was made by CM Eknath Shinde at a public meeting held at Saswad. However, since there have been no official orders issued about the project, there is a question mark about the project. (Purandar International Airport Project)
Three thousand hectares of land was finalised in Pargaon, Khanwadi, Munjwadi, Ekhatpur, Kubharvalan, Vanpuri and Udachiwadi villages in Purandar taluka for the international airport. The required permissions from the defence ministry, IAF and forest ministry were taken for the project. The land which was to be acquired was measured and a rehabilitation plan or the process up to compensation was completed. Former district collector Naval Kishor Ram had announced that the compensation will be similar to the one for the Samruddhi Highway project and a skill development programme had also been undertaken. For the development of the airport, MADC was given the task and funds were allotted. However, after the MVA government was formed, the location of the airport was changed. Due to the corona epidemic, no work on the airport could take place. The defence ministry rejected the new site of the proposed airport. Hence, it was clear that the airport could not be built at the new site.
Meanwhile, at the local level, land measurement, checking of documents and related work has been stopped. The paper work of the land acquisition by the MADC has also been stopped.
After the new government has been formed, former MLA and former minister from Purandar taluka Vijay Shivtare is making efforts to ensure that the airport is constructed at the earlier location in Purandar taluka. CM Shinde also made a similar announcement regarding this at a public meeting held at Saswad. However, no actual progress has taken place regarding the project.
