Pune’s first citizen absent during Ganpati Utsav

September is that month of the year when the whole of India is in Maharashtra. This is the month where Maharashtra witness the arrival of its beloved god ‘Ganesh’. The Ganesh Utsav was first started in Pune and thus the place goes in the history books of Ganesh Utsav. Many from overseas also visit the historic place of Pune in these 10 days. But when the entire world is coming in Pune, but Pune’s first citizen will be remaining absences to welcome the Lord Ganesha as she will be in abroad.

This shocking revelation came ahead in the press conference organized by the organizers of Pune Festival. Festival president Suresh Kalmadi, Patron of such festival is a member of Parliament, Member of Parliament Hema Malini, chief Co-ordinator Krishnakant Kudale, Vice-president Krishnakumar Goyal and Subhash Sanas as vice president. This year its the 30th Pune Festival on September 14 which will be inaugurated by Patron and MP Malini.

Usually on the issue of invitation and missing the names of elected people on events, last year Mayor name was missing from the event on which even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taunt to former Pune Mayor learning from past mistake and not to get involved in the controversy Kudale cleared that, “as Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Mayor Mukta Tilak will be out of India so her name has been not mentioned in the list of people who will be present.”

PMC Mayor Tilak and PMC’s commissioner Sourabh Rao with their team has gone out of India on the study tour. Sources confirmed it and said that the Mayor and commissioner have left the city on September 8 (Saturday) night with their team. The arrival of Ganesh is on September 13.

Pune is about to become a smart city with metro on the cards. The construction of the metro is a part of this Smart City Project. There are various other initiatives taken under this project. Sources claimed that the PMC team has left India to study the smart city projects across the globe.

Tilak is not just the Mayor of Pune but also is daughter-in-law freedom fighter and also the Lokmanya  Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Lokmanya Tilak spread the idea of Ganesh Utsav in entire Maharashtra, it was his initiative and to start a protest against British rule under the name of Ganpati.

Pune city holds great importance in Ganesh Utsav. Business of lakhs of rupees takes place in these 10 days. More than 50 lakhs devotes from outside the state visits Pune. Thousands of foreigners come to see the great culture of Pune, but Alas! Pune’s very own Mayor won’t be there to welcome them all.

Pune Festival, a confluence of music, dance, drama, art, singing, instruments, sports and culture is celebrating its 30th year. It will be held during the Ganeshotsav Period from  September 13 to September 23 this year. The inauguration function will be held on Friday, September 14th at 4.30 pm at the hands of veteran actress and danseuse MP Hema Malini at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch.

When asked about the entire expenditure of Festival Kudale replied, “Total cost of the festival is ranging in the house of Rs 80 lakh and from Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) usually we get Rs 5 lakh but last year considering our third decade we were promised by Ministry of Tourism to give us Rs 30 lakh which is still not given. We believe that this year, such promises will be fulfilled.” Kudale further denied any special help by PMC.

For the inauguration, the Maharashtra’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune Girish Bapat and State Tourism Minister Jay Kumar Rawal will be present as the chief guests at the occasion. Besides them, Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Social Welfare Dilip Kamble, Minister of State for Water Resources Vijay Shivatare, Former Co-operatives Minister Harshvardhan Patil, Deputy Mayor of Pune Siddharth Dhende, Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Suhas Diwase will be present as the guests of honor.
