Pune: Younger brother gets life term in elder brother’s murder case

Pune: The court sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for killing his elder brother. The convict used to trouble his parents, was jobless and an alcoholic.

Additional Sessions Judge PP Jadhav pronounced the judgement. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve the jail term for three more months. Their mother had lodged a complaint at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station. However, she turned hostile during the hearings. But the accused’s wife testified before the court, which proved important.

Their mother did not cooperate with the public prosecutor during the trial. The court observed that their mother does not deserve to get any compensation in this backdrop.

The convict has been identified as Nilesh Baban Borkar (31), resident of Uruli Devachi. He killed his brother Mangesh. Their mother lodged the complaint. Mangesh stayed at Kalepadal. On the day of the incident, Mangesh was at Uruli. They had a verbal dispute. The complaint stated that Nilesh killed Mangesh by hitting his head with a stone.

Namdev Taralgatti worked as the public prosecutor. Woman constable Lalita Kanavade helped him at the court. Testimony of Nilesh’s wife proved vital. The accused’s wife was not present after the incident but constable Kanavade searched for her and brought her to court, which proved important.

PP Taralgatti submitted an application under section 311 and recorded her statement. The court upheld her testimony and sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.
