Pune: Trader arrested for issuing fake bills of more than Rs 110 Cr

Pune: The Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Department has arrested a trader for producing fake bills of more than Rs 110 crore. The State GST Department has initiated action against tax evaders and action against three persons has been taken so far.

The arrested accused has been identified as Babusha Sharanappa Kasbe. Mr Kabse took registration certificate for Khushi Tenders under the Goods and Services Tax Act 2017. Through this company, Kasbe paid only Rs 110 crore in bills and sent ITC worth Rs 16.86 crore to the next buyer. Reportedly, in order to avoid the imposition of this tax, he collected input tax of about Rs 16.86 crore from bogus bills from many companies without any direct supply of goods and services.

The Pune magistrate’s court remanded Kasbe in judicial custody for 14 days. The act is non-bailable and carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment under the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2007.

Mahesh Zanwar oversaw the proceedings on behalf of the GST department. The arrests were made under the guidance of Reshma Ghanekar, Joint Commissioner of State Taxes, Dattatraya Amberao, Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes and Dattatraya Telanga, Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes.

“The state GST department received information about bogus companies during the operation. Action will be taken against them in the near future”, Dattatraya Amberao, Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes said.
