Pune: Towed vehicle parked on zebra crossing, citizen demands action against Yerawada traffic police

Pune: Common citizens are punished and made to pay fine for parking their vehicles in no-parking zones or crossing the stop line and standing on the zebra strips, but what if the police themselves flout traffic norms.

Similar incident was experienced by one common citizen Ravindra Baburao Sanas recently. Sanas had parked his car in a no-parking zone along a pavement at Vishrantwadi and it was towed within minutes by the police attached with Yerawada traffic division.

However, when Sanas reached the traffic division to pay the fine and get his car back, he was surprised to see that the car was parked on the zebra crossing on the busy Pune Alandi road by the police themselves.

Sanas runs a transport business and he knows all about the rules and regulation of traffic police so as evidence he clicked the picture of his car standing on zebra crossing. The pictures state the gross violation committed by the department of traffic. He has presented the photographs to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Not only this he asked the concerned officials in the traffic division to be booked under same section 201 of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988. In the reference of the same violation as his, he wants the officers to pay a penalty for violating the rules like him.

Sanas says that cops rule cannot be different from a normal citizen; rules are rules and should be applied to all the citizens of the country for better results.

Whereas, the police department said that they were not having enough space to park the car and that is why they parked it on the road.
