Pune : Torrential rains to continue in city says IMD

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted Pune will receive heavy rains for 3 consecutive days, also heavy rainfall and thunder will continue over parts of the state even on Thursday.  The Pune city received 19.8 mm of rain in a three-hour span till 8.30 pm on Wednesday.
The Pune city experienced cloudy sky throughout the day followed by moderate-intensity rain starting from late evening as the well-marked low pressure system approached over south Maharashtra, causing widespread rain.  Many different parts of Maharashtra recorded heavy rainfall in the 12-hour period from 5.30 am to 5.30 pm on Wednesday.  The  heavy rain was reported at Solapur – 79 mm, Mahabaleshwar – 49 mm, Ratnagiri – 42 mm, Satara – 24 mm and Kolhapur – 18mm.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the heavy rainfall and thunder will continue over parts of the state even on Thursday.
IMD officials pointed out that the well-marked low pressure system lay over south Madhya Maharashtra. Further, this system will move ahead in the west-northwest direction towards north Konkan. The Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan, Goa and Karnataka will witness heavy rainfalls on October 15”.
The reason for unseasonal torrential rain is the low-pressure system which will enter the Arabian Sea and re-emerge as an intensified depression. When the system shifts to the Arabian Sea, the rainfall intensity over the state will reduce.
Earlier on 10 October, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had also issued an orange alert for Vidarbha, Marathwada and Central Maharashtra on the following Sunday and Monday. The low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has led to significant changes in the weather with the entire Konkan region, including Mumbai on orange alert.
