Pune | Three Irani gang members held for impersonating as policemen, valuables worth Rs 6 lakh seized
Wakad : NpNews24 Online – Three members of an Irani gang were arrested for impersonating as policemen and looting senior citizens walking on the roads.
The accused persons are habitual criminals. They have committed similar offences in Wakad and Mumbai earlier also. Valuables worth Rs 6.22 lakh have been seized from them.
The accused have been identified as Haider Tehzib Sayyed (55), Yunus Sabur Sayyed (46) and Ghazi Rafiq Jafri (35), all residents of Kalyan. Laxman Vitthalrao Deshmukh (64), a resident of Nagpur, lodged a complaint in this regard.
Accused Haider has 39 offences registered against him, Yunus Sayyed has five while Ghazi Jafri has 24 cases.
The complainant was walking on a road when three unidentified persons approached him. They identified themselves as policemen and won his confidence. Then they told him that robberies were taking place in the area and asked him to keep his gold ornaments in a bag. As he kept his ornaments in the bag, the accused stole ornaments worth Rs 2.20 lakh by sleight of hand. Police teams were formed to nab the culprits after realising the seriousness of the crime.
As the police checked the CCTV footage in the area, they realised the modus operandi of the Irani gang. They searched for the accused in Patil Estate and Loni Kalbhor areas. They came to know that the accused were in Kalyan, Thane.
The accused were seen escaping towards Mumbai after committing two offences in Wakad, Nigdi.
After the accused were identified, the police tried to trace them with the help of Khadakpada police in Ambivali. However, they were not at the slum.
The police traced their mobile phone location behind a hotel in Baneli. Two police teams went to nab them. However, they tried to run away after they saw the police. Two accused were held after a chase. However, the third hid in a marshy area. Finally, they arrested him too. Their fourth accomplice Haider alias Langada Pappu Sayyed alias Irani is absconding.
This action was taken under the guidance of CP Krishna Prakash, Addl CP Sanjay Shinde, DCP Zone 2 Anand Bhoite and ACP Shrikant Disley. Senior PI Dr Vivek Mugalikar, PI Crime Santosh Patil, API Abhijeet Patil, API Abhijeet Jadhav, PSI Ganesh Torgal, police personnel Bibhishan Kanherkar, Babajan Inamdar, Rajendra Kale, Javed Pathan, Bapusaheb Dhumal, Vijay Gambhire, Vikram Kudal, Dipak Sable, Vandu Gire, Pramod Kadam, Baba Chavan, Atique Shaikh, Atish Jadhav, Kalpesh Patil, Kaunteya Kharade, Ajay Phalle and Nutan Konde took part in the action.
