Pune: Student jumps out from hostel lift, dies on Ghole Road

Pune: Trustees, supervisor of a hostel in Shivajinagar and its security guard have been booked for culpable homicide when a student jumped out of the hostel lift into the duct and dies.

The deceased has been identified as Ajay Ashok Mirande (19), hailing from Ahmednagar. The trustees of the JP Trivedi Memorial Trust, hostel supervisor Anjana Ketan Motiwala, security guard Subhash Surve have been booked under sections 304(a) (culpable homicide), 34 of the IPC.

The victim’s father Ashok Madanlal Mirande (55) lodged a complaint at the Shivajinagar Police Station. Ajay was studying in the Government Engineering College.

The JP Trivedi Memorial Trust has its hostel on Ghole Road in Shivajinagar. Ajay and his friends were going by the lift at around 8.15 pm on March 15 when the lift stopped working. Security guard did not give them proper instructions. He asked Ajay to jump into the duct. However, he was seriously injured after jumping out of the lift. He died during treatment. The police inspected the accident spot. Supervisor did not issue necessary instructions as to how students could be safely evacuated from a trapped lift. It was revealed during the investigation that she did not guide the guard in this regard. Therefore, the supervisor, the guard and the trustees have been booked in the case.

PSI Bade is investigating the matter.
