Pune: The Sassoon Hospital administration has started taking steps so that patients do not have to buy medicine from private medical stores from outside. Doctors in the hospital have been instructed to not issue a prescription to patients to get medicines from outside (zero prescription).

It has been decided to buy medicines so that there should be no shortage of essential medicines. Therefore, patients will not have to purchase them from private stores outside, claimed the administration.

Patients complained recently that all medicines are not available in the Sassoon Hospital. A video clip of a doctor telling a patient’s relative to buy medicines from a private store went viral on social media. This raised questions why medicines are not available in the Sassoon Hospital and why patients are told to buy them from outside. Therefore, the administration has issued the ‘zero prescription’ directive to the doctors.

Officials said that it has been decided to purchase medicines to provide them in the hospital itself. Some medicines have been procured while the remaining will arrive in a couple of weeks.
