Pune: Six police personnel suspended on charges of helping accused in Deepak Maratkar murder case

Pune: In yet another embarrassment for the Pune city police department, six personnel have been suspended on charges of helping the accused in the Shiv Sena leader Deepak Maratkar murder case. The police personnel were on duty when the accused allegedly met gangster Bapu Nayar inside Sassoon Hospital.

Investigations have revealed that Maratkar was murdered on the instructions of Nayar over the issue of supremacy on the red light area of Budhwar Peth. The suspended police personnel include a havaldar and five constables. The constables are from the 2016 batch while the havaldar was in Railway police and had been transferred to Pune city police department recently.

Pune Police have slapped stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the ten suspects arrested on charges of murdering Maratkar.

Deepak Maratkar, an office bearer of the Yuva Sena was murdered by suspects using a sharp weapon. He was hacked to death in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth in the heart of Pune city. Investigations revealed that the murder was planned and done by organised crime syndicates like Bapu Nayar to keep their control over the red-light area.

The suspects arrested in this case are Ashwini Sopan Kamble, Niranjan Sagar Mhakale, Rahul Shrinivas Ragir, Rohit Dattatreya Kshirsagar, Lakhan Manohar Dhavare, Mahendra Madanlal Saraf, Prashant alias Sunny Prakash Kolte, Rohit alias Bala Kamlakar Kamble, Sandeep alias Muglya Prakash Kolte, Chandrashekhar Ramdas Waghel.
