Pune: Six booked for duping senior citizen of Rs 2 crore, demanding ransom

Pune: Six people have been booked for duping an old woman of over Rs 2 crore. They took advantage of her old age and illness and sold her land at a lower rate. Two of them demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from her.

The Swargate Police booked them for cheating and extortion. The incident took place from 2022 to March 2024 in the Gultekdi area.

Taramati Sadanand Pathak (75), a resident of Gultekdi, lodged a complaint on Tuesday at the Swargate Police Station. The accused have been identified as Ravi Suresh Jadhav, a resident of Koregaon Park, Chandrakant Gajanan Pokale, Chintamani Ankush Pokale, a resident of Dhayari, Tarunraj Sanjeev Kusalkar and Karan Sanjeev Kusalkar, both residents of Aundh, Abhijit (full name, address not known). A case has been registered against them under sections 406, 420, 385, 386, 387, 506, 120 (b), 34 of the IPC.

According to the police, the complainant owns 1 hectare and 33.6 R land in Dhayari. Accused Ravi Jadhav made a common cause with other accused and took advantage of the complainant’s old age and illness. They took her into confidence. They misled her by giving her false information about her land in Dhayari.

The land’s cost is over Rs 3 crore as per the Ready Reckoner rate but they induced her to sell it at Rs 2 crore. They cheated her of Rs 2 crore. Ravi Jadhav and Abhijit called her to Swiss Café near her house on November 23, 2023. When she met her, they demanded Rs 10 lakh ransom, stated the complaint.

The police are investigating the case.
