Pune: Seeking shelter from torrential rains under bridge, 4-year-old boy, grandmother drown in Chaskaman dam water

Pune: A four-year-old boy and his grandmother drowned in water released from the Chaskaman dam on Thursday (October 22) evening in Khed tehsil. They had taken shelter under a small bridge in Kahu Koyali village near the Chaskaman dam, but got carried away due to the strong current of water released from the dam.

The deceased woman has been identified as Bhorabai Pardhi. Tehsildar Suchitra Amle, Sub Divisional Officer Vikrant Chavan along with the disaster management team visited the spot on Thursday evening. Local citizens and rescue teams launched search operations for the two missing persons, but on Friday morning the dead body of the four year old boy was found.

According to officials, the boy and the woman were heading to their home when heavy rainfall started in the area. The two took shelter under a small bridge to save themselves from the downpour. However, since water was being released from the Chaskaman dam the natural water streams were flooded. The two drowned due to the water flowing at high speed from the stream.
