Pune Police to install 1500 more CCTV cameras for citizen safety

Pune: The network of ‘CCTV’ surveillance will be strengthened for a safer city, 1,500 high-capacity CCTVs will be installed in the entire city and they will be operational at full capacity. The safety of Pune residents will be the first priority of the Pune Police, said Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta at the Pune Police Commissionerate meeting today.

Gupta said, “Punekars should feel safe after leaving. New plans will be implemented for this. CCTVs have been installed on major squares and roads in the city. However, with the expansion of the city, the number of CCTVs will be increased to 1,500”.

“This will help strengthen law and order. Few of the previously installed faulty cameras will be repaired. The emphasis will be on upgrading all the CCTVs in the city. A proposal to install new CCTV cameras will be prepared in eight days. It will be implemented immediately thereafter,” added Gupta.

Restructuring of police station boundaries

The city’s population is growing, so the city is expanding on the outskirts as well. Therefore, due to increasing population and expansion, the boundaries of police stations will have to be restructured in the near future. For this, the previously constituted Deputy Commissioner (Zonal) offices will have to get the approval of the State Government. The proposal will be prepared and sent to the office of the Director General of Police. After their approval, new surveys will be conducted and zones with police stations will be created. The emphasis will be laid on restructuring of Hadapsar and Chaturangi police stations in particular.

Measures for prevention of traffic congestion – ITMS

Traffic congestion is the most important and serious issue in the city. The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will be used effectively for this. Accordingly, work will be done on city transport and we will plan for the next 25 to 30 years. Many decisions have to be made to solve the transportation problem
