Pune Police | Policeman suspended for beating up accused in Kondhwa police station

Pune :Deccan Express – Pune Police | The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune, has suspended a policeman for severely beating up a man who was in police custody. The policeman has been identified as police naik Anil Mahadev Koli. DCP Namrata Patil has issued the notification.

Anil Koli was on guard duty at Kondhwa police station from 9 pm on April 6 to 9 am on April 7. Senior PI Sardar Patil who came to know that a prisoner had been severely beaten up at 11.43 pm, sought an explanation from Koli. Since Jahed Shaikh’s leg was in pain, he wanted some tablets. Since he was not able to tell what tablets he wanted, he was brought outside and was placed in lock up after being given medicine and Shaikh was not beaten up, was the explanation given by Koli.

When the CCTV footage of the lock up in Kondhwa police station was examined, it was clear that the accused had been beaten up. On April 6 at 11.42 pm, Koli brought the accused out of the lock up and beat him up and took him to the guard room. At 11. 44 pm, Koli had a belt like thing in his hand and again thrashed the accused before putting him in the lock up. At 11.46 pm, Koli had gone out to keep the belt like thing. Koli took Zahid Shaikh out of the lock up illegally, slapped him, kicked him and assaulted him on his face, according to the CCTV footage. The entire incident has been captured by CCTV cameras. It is clear that since Koli had assaulted the prisoner, DCP Namrata Patil has suspended him.
