Pune to get water every alternate day from Monday

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune PMC Water Supply | Since the monsoon is playing truant, Pune like Mumbai is also facing a water cut. The main reason is the water storage in the Khadakwasla dam supplying water to Pune city has depleted significantly. Hence, the PMC had decided to enforce water cuts in the city. From Monday (July 4), water will be supplied every alternate day to the city. The PMC is going to issue a timetable of water supply.

The Water Resources Department had sent a letter to the PMC that it should utilise water carefully because of the reduction in water storage in the Khadakwasla dam. It has not started raining in Pune and the Khadakwasla dam. There is only 2.5 TMC feet of water left in the four dams. Hence, if it does not rain, the situation is likely to become worse. Against this background, a meeting to discuss the water situation was going to be held three days ago. However, since the meeting was cancelled, a decision was kept pending.

At present, there is irregular water supply in Pune. Some areas get water throughout the day while some areas get water at very low pressure. Hence, if a water cut is imposed, some areas of Pune will not get water at all as experienced in previous years. Hence, water will be supplied every alternate day to ensure that all areas get water with adequate pressure. This year also, the civic administration is working out the nitty gritty of the water supply arrangements.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar held a meeting with officials of the water supply department. There was a detailed discussion about the water supply arrangements for the city. Considering the water supply system, while enforcing a water cut, it is possible to supply only on alternate days. Hence, it was decided that a timetable should be released and the water cut should be implemented from Monday.
