Pune Pashan Lake | PMC removes ‘couple is not allowed’ board outside Pashan Lake; now unmarried couples can also enter the lake area

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – Pune Pashan Lake | The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) finally removed the controversial board outside the Pashan Lake banning the entry for love birds to the lake and its surroundings. Unmarried couples were not allowed to enter the area. Now, the ban has been lifted. The civic body’s decision to ban unmarried couples was flayed by people from all sections of society. This has forced the PMC to withdraw the ban.

The ban was imposed in view of difficulties faced by bird watchers visiting the lake and security concerns. Many had objected to this diktat by the civic body calling it illegal and violating the basic rights of an individual mentioned in the Indian Constitution. Now, the PMC has cancelled its decision.

Right To Love submits a petition to the civic chief

The PMC had installed the board at the main gate of Pashan Lake saying ‘Unmarried couple is not allowed’. NGO Right To Love submitted a petition to Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar and demanded removal of the board. The NGO alleged that the decision was illegal and should be withdrawn immediately. The organisation took an aggressive stand over the issue. People from various walks of life also protested the move.

Local citizens and bird watchers were complaining about the growing presence of such couples in the area. Citizens have been trying to preserve the lake and its ecosystem. The lake and its surroundings are being polluted. Hence, efforts are being made to stop this.

The PMC took note of this and banned the entry of love birds in the area. The civic body had warned of action against unmarried couples in the lake area.
