Pune: Parents, son killed due to electrocution, daughter survives

Pune: Three members of a family were killed due to electrocution at Dapodi in Daund Taluka on Monday morning.

The incident took place when a man first came in contact with electricity current. His son went to save him and then his wife also rushed to save both. However, they received electric shock and died. Their daughter survived as she had her coaching classes in the morning.

The deceased have been identified as Surendra Devidas Bhalekar (44), his wife Adika Devendra Bhalekar (38) and son Prasad Surendra Bhalekar. The family hailed from Solapur and was staying at Dapodi.

The family was staying as a tenant in a room belonging to the Adsuls. It was made of tin sheets. It is said that current flowing through an electricity pole came in contact with a tin sheet. After taking a bath, Surendra Bhalekar was putting his towel to dry when the incident happened. His son heard his cry for help and ran to help him. Adika Bhalekar also rushed to save them but all of them were electrocuted.

Surendra used to work as a daily wager at a construction site. His son was studying in Std XII (Science) at the Jawaharlal Vidyalaya in Kedgaon. Wife Adika worked as a farm labour. The family was staying for five years in the area. MSEDCL employees and the police arrived at the spot after they were alerted about the incident.

Their daughter Vaishnavi survived as she went for her coaching classes, said villagers.
