State extends deadline to process transfer ownership of plots to 2,095 Panshet flood-affected people

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Panshet Flood | The state cabinet on Wednesday (March 2) decided to extend the deadline by three years to process the transfer of the leased plots given to the Panshet flood-affected people living in 103 cooperative housing societies.

District Guardian Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was making special efforts for this decision. Over 2,000 flood-affected members from the 103 societies will benefit from this.

The state cabinet took this decision on the eve of the budget session. Many families were rendered homeless in the Panshet floods in the city in 1961. The government had set up eight colonies to rehabilitate these people. Around 3,988 rooms were built in the colonies named as Male, Ote, Shejghare, Golghare and Nissen Hut. These rooms had a nominal rent in the beginning. In all, the 2,095 flood-affected who did not get these rooms were given plots in 103 housing societies for a 99-year lease.

The members of these societies were facing many issues as the societies did not own the land. The members could not take loans on these properties, they could not mortgage them and could not sell it without the government’s permission. The ownership of the rooms was transferred to them. Now, the people demanded the ownership of the plots for many years.

Many civic cases about plots in these societies are pending in the civil court. These cases cannot be solved within a predetermined time. Those members who had applied for the ownership of the land to the district collector could not be provided relief by the state government. Hence, work regarding this issue could not be completed within time.

The state has now taken a policy decision to transfer the ownership of these plots to these people. In all, 2,095 members in the 103 housing societies will benefit from this.
