Pune News | Manjari Budruk Railway Flyover Project Stalls Due to Land Acquisition Hurdles

Manjari Budruk: Pune News | Despite being in the final stage of completion, the railway flyover at Manjari Budruk has hit a roadblock due to land acquisition issues that remain unresolved for several months. The project, which is currently ninety percent complete, has been eagerly awaited by residents and commuters, but delays in acquiring certain parcels of land have put a damper on its progress.

Officials, including Ministers, MPs, and MLAs, have visited and inspected the site, while citizens have protested to expedite the flyover’s construction. However, the much-needed service road’s land acquisition process, which is vital for the bridge’s descent, has been mired in complexities. The initial price offered for land acquisition was not acceptable to some farmers, resulting in a prolonged impasse.

In an effort to break the deadlock, the Public Works Department stepped in and appointed an agency to prepare a new proposal for land acquisition. The revised proposal was subsequently sent to the Collector for approval. However, a decision is yet to be made on the proposal, and the project remains ensnared in administrative red tape.

The key concern lies in whether the newly proposed amount for land acquisition will be acceptable to the affected farmers. In case the revised offer is not agreed upon, the entire process of land acquisition will have to be initiated again, causing further delays in the project’s timeline.

Even if the proposed amount is accepted and land acquisition is eventually completed, the construction work is likely to take several months to finish. Consequently, doubts linger about whether the bridge will be open for traffic this year. The completion of road infrastructure and other necessary works is estimated to extend into the new year, leaving motorists to endure the inconvenience of the alternative route for a little while longer.
