Complete the tender process before the tenure of the earlier tender ends, orders Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Municipal Corporation (PMC) |  PMC Administrator and Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has given a jolt to civic officials who want to extend the deadline of the tender process to help some contractors. He has issued orders to all departments that the tender process should be completed before the tenure of the first tender ends.

Considering the expanding limits of the PMC, the civic body has less manpower. Hence, many works are outsourced by the PMC. Apart from manpower, vehicles and other equipment are also hired on rental basis. Primarily, the staff required for maintaining cleanliness, security staff, vehicle drivers and vehicles, staff required for anti-encroachment drives, clerical and class IV staff are also recruited on contractual basis.

For this, every year or alternate year, a tender is floated. For the above services, an expenditure of more than Rs 100 crore is incurred every year. Apart from this, various properties and facilities of the civic body are also rented out for a specific period. The maintenance work in various departments is also outsourced and every year, the civic body incurs an expenditure of Rs 100 to Rs 150 crore every year.

However, for some time now, even after the tenure of the work given to some contractors is over, the new tenders are not floated. Hence, to avoid the delay in work, the PMC is forced to award the contract to the earlier contractor. It has come to light that the tender process is deliberately delayed with the connivance of some officials. The tender process is delayed by saying that the work will be affected and come to a standstill.

After Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has taken charge of the civic body as the commissioner, he is giving importance to the city’s cleanliness and impartiality in the functioning of the civic body. He has issued orders to all department heads that the tender process of the same work for the new period should be completed before the tenure of the earlier tender ends.
