Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) | The Pune Municipal Corporation demolished unauthorized structures from Mhatre Bridge to Rajaram Bridge. Civic officials will now check how water was supplied to these properties. It will also be scrutinised whether water connections given to these properties were legal or illegal. Action will be taken against the illegal connections, said Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Vikram Kumar. ( Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)|

A massive drive is being conducted against encroachments in the city. The PMC’s Anti-Encroachment and Building Departments’ action against lawns, hotels and other establishments on DP road from Mhatre Bridge to Rajaram Bridge was a part of this drive.

Under this drive, notices were issued to 76 property owners, out of which eight got a stay order on the action. Hence, 68 properties were razed and an area of 4.03 lakh sq ft was freed. Around 20 excavators, 12 gas cutters, eight breakers and 200 workers took part in the action. In all, 25 police personnel, 100 security guards, 15 anti-encroachment inspectors took part in the action.

The property owners, against whom action was taken, were close to influential politicians. Hence, the civic administration will take steps that the freed space is not encroached upon again. Permanent power, water connections were taken by these property owners. Drainage lines were laid in the area. Hence, it will be verified whether these amenities were legal or illegal. Action will be taken against those taking illegal connections, said Vikram Kumar.

Civic chief to survey area on Saturday

Speaking about the action, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Vikram Kumar said that there is no pressure from anyone to halt the anti-encroachment drive in the city. Citizens are responding positively to the action.

He said that he would visit and survey the area on DP road, where anti-encroachment action was taken.
