Pune Municipal Corporation civic polls: Draft delimitation of wards to be declared on February 1

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Corporation |  The State Election Commission has finally directed civic bodies in the State to announce the draft delimitation plans and finalise them. Thus, the draft delimitation of wards in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad will be released on February 1.

 

The final delimitation list of wards will be published on March 2 after hearing objections, suggestions on them and conducting other legal procedures. Later, reservations will be decided through a lucky draw system and then the election schedule will be announced.

 

AS per the draft delimitation plan for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), there will be 58 wards, each with a three-member panel. Each ward consists of an average 61,669 population. The State Election Commission considered the population as per Census 2011 (over 35.56 lakh) while doing this. Each ward will have around 56,000 voters.

 

The State Election Commission issued orders in this regard on January 28. It is releasing them phase-wise to civic bodies in the State. The PMC has 58 wards with 173 members. Of these 57 wards will have a three-member panel. The wards will have the lowest number of voters of 58,000 and the highest of 66,000 voters. There will be only one two-member panel ward (No. 13) with 37,589 voters.

 

Of the 173 members in 58 wards, 23 have been reserved for the SC category (reserved 12 wards for women and 11 for men). Two wards have been reserved for the ST category (one each for men and women).

 

Of the 173 members, 50% seats have been reserved for women. One seat each will be reserved for ST in ward numbers 1 and 14.

 

Total SC population: 4,80,017

The wards reserved for the SC category are: ward no. 20, 48, 50, 8, 27, 26, 9, 7, 37, 38, 22, 10, 39, 21, 19, 46, 4, 12, 3, 40, 35.

Total ST population: 41,561

Ward no. 1 and 14 have been reserved for the ST category.

 

Final delimitation programme

– February 1 (Tuesday): Draft Delimitation of Wards to be released inviting objections and suggestions

– February 14 (Monday): Last date for registering objections and suggestions

– February 16 (Saturday): Statement of objections and suggestions to be submitted to the State Election Commission

– February 26 (Wednesday): Last date of hearing conducted by the authorised official on objections and suggestions

– March 2: Statement with recommendations to be submitted to the State Election Commission
