Pune: Minors terrorise people in Chakan, Mahalunge areas

Pune: Around eight minors assaulted farmers, drivers and a director of the APMC, Chakan with sticks, bricks and stones. The police detained most of them. They were drunk. There was a big furor over the incident.

In another incident, a student from a Warkari school was beaten up and his leg was fractured in the incident at Bhamchandra Hill near Khed. Minors are terrorising people in the area. Citizens are asking whether goons have become so audacious that they do not fear the police.

Two minors stoned a 17-year-old youngster to death in Chakan a few months ago. They also posted a video clip of the murder on social media. The victim was an accused in a murder of a youth at Kanersar village in Khed taluka. One of the accused was booked in previous offences.

Minors are spreading terror among citizens, entrepreneurs, traders, workers in Chakan and Mahalunge areas. This is an indication that the police department is losing its grip on criminals.

This underlines the fact that children in conflict with law (CCLs) just do not care what consequences their actions would have.

CCLs were involved in six murder cases in the past at the Chakan fort, Medankarwadi, on the PWD premises, at Rohkal Phata in the Chakan area.

These CCLs usually consume ganja and sell it to others. They have established a racket. Since they cannot be arrested and handed over back to their parents, their number is growing. They are involved in serious offences such as molestation, theft, robbery, murder, etc.

Sr PI Pramod Wagh said, “We have taken action against the goons involved in the incident at the APMC, Chakan. Most of them are minors. We are taking necessary action to curb crime in the area.

“Armed police personnel have now been deployed at the APMC. We are trying to curb crime committed by minors. We are trying to educate them so that they do not take to crime in the future.”
