Pune : Military Intelligence and Rural Police nab man posing as Lieutenant Colonel of Indian Army

Pune: Local Crime Branch of Pune Rural police have arrested a 23-year-old man who was posing as an army officer and staying in Kirkatwadi area near the National Defence Academy (NDA) on the outskirts of Pune city. The man was posing as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army and police have recovered several fake and forged documents from his residence.

Pune Rural Police are suspecting that the arrested suspect could be a part of a bigger scam. The arrested suspect has been identified as Ankit Kumar Singh (23), presently staying at Utsav Society in Kirkatwadi and originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Ankit was nabbed after Military Intelligence unit shared their inputs about his suspicious activities. Ankit’s wife has also been detained by police.

Police have seized ten different types of identity cards, eight ATM cards, one laptop, one tablet pc, colour printer, edited images of himself in the uniform of Lieutenant Colonel, airline tickets, several certificates, pen drive and two mobiles.

The Local Crime Branch of Pune Rural police had received a tipoff that one person is claiming to be an army officer and roaming around in the Kirkatwadi area. A team comprising Police Sub Inspector Amol Gore, Assistant Police Sub Inspector Dattatrey Jagtap, Police personnel Mangesh Bhagat, Amol Shedge, Balasaheb Khadke, Kashinath Rajapure, Sunita Mane laid the trap and nabbed the suspect. Three officers of the Military Intelligence unit also participated in the operation.
