There was no transparency in selling agricultural products. Already there were some complaints about corruption in this system. For stopping all these, the central government has created a ‘Model Act’. The central government had sent an order to the state government for its implementation in last year. This act includes the recommendation of giving the status of National Agricultural Markets to the market committees in three cities, Mumbai, Nashik, and Nagpur. It is required to make changes in the state’s current law and for this various attempts are being made since last year.

Pune market committee receives many commodities from other states and because of which Pune market committee has become ‘National Agricultural Market ’. Pune market committee was already included in ‘e-NAM’ (Electronic National Agriculture Market) scheme. That’s why there will be no trouble in ‘E-Trading’ and ‘Online auction’.

After getting the status of National Market Committee there are around 23 officers who will work on the market committee. A proposal has been given according to which, an officer’s group may work under the IAS officer or agricultural expert officer, although this proposal has not been finalized yet.

Possible benefits:

  • Chances of the decrease in corruption-related activities.
  • Transparency in selling agricultural products as every step of the procedure will be online.
  • Farmers will be benefitted by an implementation of this act.
