Pune Lockdown Violation | Over 800 tourists gather at Lonavala, Mulshi, Khadakwasla-Sinhagad Fort Area, Fined

npnews24 – Pune : Covid19 cases were decreasing in Pune city after tireless efforts of PMC and administration. Covid19 cases have indeed decreased but the pandemic is not yet over. But tourists are flocking to various destinations in the rural areas of the district and violating the lockdown norms.

Over 800 tourists were gathered in Lonavala, Mulshi, Khadakwasla and Sinhagad Fort areas on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the high Coronavirus disease (COVID19) positivity rate, tourism is banned in the district. All these tourists were fined by the police in these areas.

Action taken on tourists flocked to Lonavala
Around 525 tourists had come to Lonavala and its rural areas on Saturday and Sunday. The tourism and gathering of crowds is banned. Even after repetitive guidelines, lockdown norms were not followed. The police administration has taken punitive action against these tourists for violating rules. In two days, Lonavla city police have taken action against 127 tourists and fined them Rs 50,000, while Lonavala rural police took action against 398 people and collected a fine of Rs 2.1 lakh.

The action was taken against 263 people on Saturday and 410 on Sunday in the Lonavla division which includes Lonavala city and rural, Vadgaon Maval and Kamshet police stations.

The police administration has put up checkpoints on the way to the tourist destinations. According to Lonavala City Police Inspector Dilip Pawar, action was taken at Kumar Chowki, Raywood Chowki and Nausena Bagh. Lonavala Rural Police Inspector TY Mujawar said that his team took action against tourists at Karla, Malavli, Pavana Nagar, Varsoli Tolnaka and Lions Point.

Tourist entry banned in Lonavala
Following the order of the Maharashtra state government, Lonavla tourism has been banned. Notice boards have been put up at various places to create awareness. Lonavala municipal council is also using social media to spread the word but tourists try to visit various destinations by ignoring these messages.

“The action was taken for not wearing masks, violating the rules of social distance, driving without following the rules etc. Although the corona cases have reduced, it is not over yet,” said the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lonavla division) Navneet Kanwat. He appealed to the citizens to be careful and avoid going to tourist places.

Action taken on tourists flocked to Mulshi area
“A total fine of Rs 45,000 was recovered from 88 persons on Saturday and Sunday for violating lockdown rules. Most of them were not wearing masks,” said Police Inspector Ashok Dhumal, in-charge of Paud police station.

Khadakwasla/Sinhagad Fort area
“On Saturday action was taken against 102 persons and a total of Rs 46,600 fine was imposed on them. Today, Rs 36,000 fine was recovered from 78 persons,” said Police Inspector Sadashiv Shelar, in-charge of Haveli police station.

Action has been taken on about 1000 tourists for violating covid19 guidelines and they have been fined by police every weekend for the past few weeks. FIRs have also been registered against some of them. Still, many people are flocking to tourist spots.
