Pune: Jumbo COVID Hospital Temporarily shutdown by PMC

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) made a decision to temporarily shut down Jumbo COVID hospital on the backdrop of the criticism from Puneities over the issue of not getting proper treatment. The hospital also lacked required medical staff. PMC will restart the hospital once proper systems are applied and have enough availability of medical staff.

Jumbo COVID hospital is set up at the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) ground for isolation of COVID-19 patients. The hospital was set to fulfill the void of unavailability of beds in the existing hospitals. The state government announced to set up three special hospitals in Pune district especially in Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) region. PMC and PMRDA jointly set up the first special hospital on CoEP college ground within 18 days managed by Lifeline Organisation.

PMC Municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar said, ;Lifeline can give treatment to around 400 patients. PMC administration is hiring doctors and medical staff from other organizations. We are hoping to get medical staff and doctors in a few days. After that, we will admit patients in the special COVID-19 hospital. Lifeline is already running Mumbai’s four Jumbo COVID-19 hospitals’.

He further added that PMRDA is also floating tenders to get medical staff for the special COVID-19 hospital.
