Pune Festival 2018 : What all things are on the cards for this year ?

Pune Festival, a confluence of music, dance, drama, art, singing, instruments, sports and culture is celebrating its 30th year. It will be held during the Ganeshotsav Period from 13th September to 23rd September this year. The inauguration function will be held on Friday, September 14th at 4.30 pm at the hands of veteran actress and danseuse MP Hema Malini at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch.

Maharashtra’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District Girish Bapat and State Tourism Minister Jay Kumar Rawal will be present as the chief guests at the occasion. Besides them, Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Social Welfare Dilip Kamble, Minister of State for Water Resources Vijay Shivatare, Former Co-operatives Minister Harshvardhan Patil, Deputy Mayor of Pune Siddharth Dhende, Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Suhas Diwase will be present as the guests of honor.

Opening ceremony

Opening ceremony of Pune Festival is also going to be very spectacular affair. The program will start with Shenai by Tukaram Daithankar. Renowned Kathak dancer Rujuta Soman and Bharatanatyam dancer Arundhati Patwardhan will present Ganesh Vandana with their co-artist. It will be followed by demonstrations of Yoga postures by 15 boys and girls of the Maharashtra Mandal. Pallavi Kavhane is the coach for these boys and girls. Dhananjay Damle has coordinated this. A program on the occasion of birth centenary year of renowned poet Ga. Di. Madgulkar, writer and singer Sudhir Phadke and writer and actor Phu. La. Deshpande will showcase their songs by Bhagyashree Abhyankar, Sonali Nandurkar, Rushikesh Badwe and Hemant Valunjkar. They will be accompanied by Parag Mategaonkar (Harmonium) and Rajendra Hasabnis (Tabala). Prakash Bhonde is the coordinator.

‘Povada Fusion’

The ‘Povada Fusion’, which is presented by 18 female artists in special attire and invoking women power, will be an added attraction for the inauguration ceremony. The concept, script and music of Povada Fusion is of Rajneesh Kalawant while Tejashree Adige has choreographed the Povada Fusion. Supriya Tamhane is the coordinator. A dance performance ‘Festival of India’ will be presented with songs including Holi dance, Punjabi Bhangra dance, Gujarati Garba dance and Koli dance of Maharashtra. Renowned Kathak dancer Rujuta Soman, renowned choreographer Kunal Phadke and Shilpa Joshi have choreographed it while it will be presented by 11 boys and 11 girls from ‘Dance Mantra Group’ and 7 artists of ‘Rujuta Soman Cultural Academy’. It will be followed by Tribute to Bollywood Music Legends, a special show of dance and music, on occasion of birth centenary year of Hindi cinema’s renowned music directors C. Ramachandra, Naushad Ali and Jaidev. It will be presented by renowned actress Prajakta Mali, Priya Marathe, Chetan Chavda and Mayuresh Pem with about 25 artists of Pune Festival. The concept and choreography of the program is of Tejashree Adige.

Shaniwar Wada Vikane Ahe
Other cultural programs of Pune Festival will be held at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir and Yashwant Rao Chavan Natyagruh. Mohan Tillo is the coordinator for these cultural programs. On Tuesday, 18th September at 5:00 pm renowned classical exponent from Bhopal V. Anuradha Singh will present ‘Bandish’ by performing Kathak dance. At 6:30 pm Kathak Ballet program ‘Shivtandav’ will be performed by Sukriti Dance Academy. On the same day at 9:30 pm Ipta Pune will present ‘Shaniwar Wada Vikane Ahe’ the price winning drama of state drama competition written by Pradeep Tungare and directed by Ravindra Devdhar. On Wednesday, 19th September at 5:00 pm Indian Classical Singer Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar will perform ‘Survandana’. On Thursday 20th September at 5:00 pm Dr. Shashikala Ravi will present ‘Devi Parvati’ a Kathak dance program. At 6:30 pm a Kathak Ballet ‘Ardha Nareshwar’ is organised by Nupra Dance Academy. On the same day Purushottam Karandak winning Ekankika will be performed at 9:30 pm. On Friday, 21st September at 5:00 pm ‘Hasyotsav Ekpatrincha’ will be presented by Hasaydan Foundation by renowned marathi one act play artists. Makarand Tillo is the coordinator for this program. Also artists like Banda Joshi, Dilip Hallyal, Chaitrali Majgaonkar-Bhandari, Srinivas Sapre will be participating in this program. One act play artist Banda Joshi will get felicitated on this occasion for completing his 5000 programs. On Saturday, 22nd September at 5:00 pm Bengali Association from Pune will present ‘Bengal Mahotsav’ a glimpse of Bengal culture and their different facets along with its iconic Durga Puja performed by 50-60 artists between the age group of 2-78 years. Mihir Dutta and Samar Roy Choudhary are the coordinator of Bengal Mahotsav. On same day at 9:30 pm ‘Marathi Kavi Sammelan’ is also organised. Renowned poet Ramdas Phutane will be the compeer. Famous poets from Maharashtra like Arun Mhatre, Mahesh Keluskar, Sahebrao Thange, Prashant More, Suresh Shinde, Anjali Kulkarni, Sudesh Lotlikar, Ramani Sonawane, BK Shaikh and Anil Dixit will also perform on this occasion.

A special tribute to G. D. Madgulkar

At Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh a special audio visual show is organised on Tuesday, 18th September at 5:00 on occasion of birth centenary year of Hindi cinema’s renowned music directors C. Ramachandra, Naushad Ali, Jaidev and poet Majrooh Sultanpuri by Sulbha Teranikar, Vandana Kulkarni and Usman Shaikh. On Wednesday, 19th September at 5:00 pm Dr. Lakshmikant Sahakari from Goa will perform on classical and semi classical sangeet. At 6:30 pm a sangeet program by Mansingh Milind Kulkarni is organised. A special tribute program on the occasion of birth centenary year of renowned poet Ga. Di. Madgulkar, writer and music director Sudhir Phadke, and writer and actor Phu. La. Deshpande will be present at  Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh on 22nd September at 5:00 pm. The participants are Swarna Mategaonkar, Sawani Datar, Chaitnya Kulkarni and Mandar Apte. The script writer and compeer is Arun Nulkar. The music composer is Parag Mategaonkar and Prakash Bhonde of  ‘Swaranand Pratishthan’ has presented it.
‘Pune Festival Golf Tournament’

This year also various sports events has been organized in the Pune Festival. On Saturday, 15th September at 6:30 am ‘Pune Festival Golf Tournament’ is organized at Pune Golf Course, Yerawada. More than 100 participants have taken part in this tournament. The tournament is organised in gold, silver and bronze sections in the handicap category.  Jaideep Patwardhan is the coordinator. On Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th September Pune District Mallakhamb competition for girls and boys has been organised by Pune District Mallakhamb Association at Maharshtra Mandal, Tilak Road from 10 am to 4 pm. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sunday, 16th September at 4:00 pm at Maharshtra Mandal, Tilak Road. Maharashtra Mandal’s Dhanajay Damle and Abhijeet Bhosale are the coordinators. On Sunday, 16th September at 9:00 am Roll Ball competition is organized by Pune District Roll Ball Association at Mahesh Vidyalay, Kothrud. Boys and girls from 10 schools each will be participating in this competition. Raju Dabhade is the coordinator. On the same day at 10:00 am ‘Dirt Track’ competition will be held at Suyog Maidan near Gangadham(Market Yard) in different 14 categories. Vikrant Raut, Anwar Shaikh and Rachana Nanda of Pune Motor Sports Association are the coordinators. Prasanna Gokhale is the convener of the sports committee of Pune Festival.
