Pune: Dialogue with protesters helped police maintain law and order during Bharat Bandh

Pune: The city was on high alert for ‘Bharat Bandh’ called on Tuesday in support of farmers’ protest in Delhi. At the same time senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Shisve maintained proper coordination and dialogue with the protesters throughout the day. This helped the police to ensure that protests passed peacefully without any untoward incident.

Farmers’ organizations, political parties, social and non-government organizations staged protests in different parts of the city. The biggest protest in the city took place at Tilak Chowk. The protests took place at five to seven different places including Kondhwa, Kothrud and Warje. Senior police officials, including Jt CP Ravindra Shisve, kept strict surveillance on the protests. The police were in constant conversation with the protesters so as to keep the protests peaceful.

Dr Shisve told media persons “We engaged through dialogue with the agitating parties and organizations since the last few days. They also responded positively and conducted the protests peacefully. Pune police had done proper planning in that regard as there were protests at five to six places in the city on Tuesday. No violent or untoward incident took place in the city and the agitation passed off peacefully.”
