A cyber thief told a woman that the address of a bank account can be changed and cheated her of Rs 7 lakh 22,000. What is surprising is the cyber thief is from Odisha and the money has been transferred to a bank account in Vapi.
A 40-year-old woman staying in Baner has lodged a complaint at the Chatuhshrungi police station. Accordingly, an FIR has been filed against Ramakant Dilip More, a resident of Valsad, Vapi, Gujarat and Nitish Jena, a resident of Antarpur, Bhadrak, Odisha.
According to the police, the complainant is a housewife. She received a call on January 15 and the caller said that he was speaking from ICICI Bank. He told her that she had a bank account and asked her whether she wanted to change her address. When she replied in affirmative, he asked her to download anydesk app. She downloaded the app on January 17. She again received a call and she was told that she should give the old address linked to the app and asked her to fill a form with her new address. She received an OTP which she shared with the caller and was duped.
After she revealed the OTP, Rs 7 lakh 22 thousand were transferred from her bank account and she realised that she had been duped. She immediately lodged a complaint with the cyber police.
