RTI activist, who tried to extort Rs two crore, arrested by Anti-Extortion Cell in Katraj
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | The Anti-Extortion Cell of Pune police crime branch has arrested an accused who had come to collect an extortion amount of Rs two crore after issuing threats to a company that he will file a case in the court after collecting information through RTI, whether the company had taken permission excavation and paid the royalty. The accused has been identified as Dattatraya Gulabrao Phalke (46), a resident of Taljai Pathar, Dhankawadi. A 30-year-old man has lodged a complaint at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.
According to the police, Dattatraya Phalke is a RTI activist. He frequently called up the complainant and asked him whether the company had taken permission for excavation and paid the royalty concerning the national highway project at Adhalgaon in Jamkhed taluka in Ahmednagar district. He threatened him that if the company wanted to avoid punitive action and carry out its work, it will have to pay Rs two crore or he will file a case against the company after getting information under RTI. He threatened the complainant that he will not allow him to live peacefully and kill him and sought a ransom of Rs two crore.
The complainant lodged a complaint with the AEC. A trap was laid at Kadam Plaza at Katraj under the guidance of PI Balaji Pandey. A Rs 2000 note was kept on top of bundles of 1246 dummy notes. A bundle of Rs 25 lakh was prepared. On Tuesday, at 3.45 pm, when Dattatraya Phalke came to collect Rs 25 lakh, he was arrested by the police.
The action was taken by a team of police officials including PI Balaji Pandhre, API Changdev Sajgane, PSI Mohan Jadhav, PSI Shrikant Chavan, policemen Vijay Gurav, Shailesh Surve, Pradeep Shitole, Vinod Salunkhe, Rahul Uttarkar, Saidoba Bhojrao, Sangram Shingare, Amol Pilane, Pradeep Gade, Chetan Shirolkar, Kishor Barge, Ravi Sankpal, Rupali Karnavar and Asha Kolekar under the guidance of CP Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Srinivas Ghadge, and ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar.
