Pune Police arrest Pune-based builder’s son, Nigerian national in drug case during night patrolling on bicycle

Pune : NpNews24 Online (Chaitraly Deshmukh) – Pune Crime | A Nigerian national and Pune-based renowned builder’s son were arrested by a Camp police team on a night patrol using bicycles.

The Pune police usually conduct night patrolling using a police van. However, the police are now conducting night patrolling on bicycle, as an alternative method to detect crime in the city. The police are trying to be a step ahead of criminals.

The Pune police kick-started with this new method of night patrolling using bicycles as it is aiding them to nab the wrongdoers, who could earlier manage to escape after sighting the police patrol van from a distance. Cops patrolling on bicycles in plainclothes do not get noticed and can arrest criminals easily. This is also helping the city police in patrolling in peripheral areas.

Senior PI Ashok Kadam attached to the Lashkar police station, under the jurisdiction Pune Police Commissionerate, along with his team, was on night patrol on their bicycles in plain clothes, which helped them arrest the two youths, including a foreign national and a social media fitness influencer, who were carrying Cocain worth Rs 4.6 lakh.

The arrested youths have been identified as Mohammed Musavi (38), a resident of Padamji Park in Nana Peth, and Chukwu Jekwu Reuben (36), a Nigerian national, currently residing at Nala Sopara in Thane. Both were booked by the police under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS). They were produced before the court and remanded in police custody. Later, they were sent to judicial custody.

Arrested suspect Musavi is the son of a Pune-based reputed builder. He is a fitness influencer on social media. He has done fitness videos with some Bollywood celebrities, under his channel Mohammed Musavi Fitness.

It was learnt that Musavi had financed and aided a few projects in the filmdom. Nigerian national Reuben came to India on a business visa. The police are checking a nexus of drug dealers from Pune, Mumbai and Goa in this connection.

Giving details on how they arrested the duo, Senior PI Ashok Kadam said, “My team members and I were on night patrolling on bicycles. We visited various spots and were heading back to the police station after bicycling for a couple of hours. I had a torch fixed to my forehead, which helped me in spotting people and objects along the road. Thus, we arrested suspect Reuben, who was sitting in a car. Both the suspects were in different cars and had halted for a while. We were in plain clothes. Reuben dropped his cell phone on the ground and wanted to escape as he noticed me.”

“A team member picked up his cellphone. We started a casual conversation with Musavi, who was in another car. Initially, we did not suspect Musavi’s involvement in this crime. Musavi told us that he was heading home as his work was over. He told us that he was a fitness freak. He told us that the Nigerian national wanted to know the direction towards Kondhwa. Musavi then got into his car to head back home,” said PI Kadam.

“Later, Musavi started calling on Reuben’s cellphone, which my officer had picked from the ground. We sent some team members to nab Reuben. We asked Musavi whom he was calling, he replied that he was calling his mother who was worried about him not reaching home,” said the Senior PI.

“Our suspicion grew about Musavi’s involvement in the crime. Our officer checked his car and found some substances in chocolate wrappers. Similar wrappers and material was found with Reuben. We suspected that both had a criminal past. We are still probing the case,” said Kadam.

PSI Nilesh Mahadik said, “Musavi is a social media influencers and has thousands of followers. He has filmed some videos with a few Bollywood actors too. We are investigating the case.”
