Prisoner commits suicide at Yerawda jail

Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | A prisoner of Yerawda open jail, who was serving life sentence, has committed suicide. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon. The deceased prisoner has been identified as Ganesh Jagganath Tambe (53). The Yerawada police have registered a case of suicide. (Pune Crime)

 

According to the police, Ganesh Tambe who was serving life sentence at Yerwada open jail hanged himself at 12 noon and this information was given by the jail administration to the Yerawada police. Ganesh Tambe was serving a life sentence for committing a murder under the jurisdiction of Virar police station in 2010.

 

Ganesh Tambe finished cooking and hanged himself at barrack number two, other prisoners said.

 

Superintendent of open jail GA Mankar immediately informed the medical officer about the incident. He was declared dead before a medical test.

 

Yerawda jail’s SP Rani Bhosale, senior PI Yunus Sheikh and API Sameer Karpe visited the spot after they were informed about the incident.

 

The body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem and Yerawada police are carrying out further investigation.
