Pune Crime News | Five held for using food delivery app for selling narcotics; ‘LSD stamps’ worth Rs 53 lakh seized

Pune: Pune Crime News | A gang of youths using a novel modus operandi to sell drugs has been busted. To avoid detection, they started delivering drugs under the garb of food delivery. So, even selling drugs late at night became possible.

 

Five people have been arrested for using the Dunzo delivery app and selling the contraband. The anti-narcotics cell of the Pune police crime branch took the action. Rohan Deepak Gavai (24), a resident of Kothrud, Sushant Kashinath Gaikwad (36), a resident of Baner, hailing from Satara dist, Dhiraj Deepak Lalvani (24), a resident of Pimple Saudagar, Deepak Laxman Gehlot (25), a resident of Suncity road and Omkar Ramesh Patil (25), a resident of Wakad, have been held. Drugs and valuables, including 17-gm pieces, valued at Rs 53.35 lakh have been confiscated from them.

 

Policeman Vishal Shinde got a tip-off that LSD was being sold online in Kothrud and surrounding areas. He arrested Gavai and seized LSD worth Rs 90,000 from him. Following his interrogation, details about his other accomplices were taken. They were nabbed from Baner, Sinhagad road, Pimple Saudagar and Wakad.

 

Gavai is studying in the second year of MBA. Gaikwad is an engineer while their other aides are also highly qualified. They wanted easy money for partying and luxury, hence they took to selling drugs. Lalvani, Gehlot and Patil are the mastermind behind this while others are peddlers.

 

After contacting customers through WhatsApp, they used to book orders on the food delivery app. After getting the order, they would hand over the packet to the delivery boy, who would never know what was kept in the parcel.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Addl Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokale and ACP Sunil Pawar. Sr PI Vinayak Gaikwad, API Shailaja Jankar, policemen Vishal Shinde, Manojkumar Salunke, Maruti Pardhi, Pandurang Pawar, Sujit Wadekar, Vishal Dalavi, Sandip Shirke, Rahul Joshi and Nitesh Jadhav took part in the action.
