Eight held for kidnapping, demanding ransom of Rs 300 crore in crypto currency, main accused is a cop

Pune-Pimpri :  NpNews24 OnlinePune Crime | A ransom of Rs 300 crore in crypto currency was sought by kidnapping a youth from Tathawade. During investigation, a police person attached to the Pimpri Chinchwad police station was found to be the main accused involved in the crime.

 

The Wakad police arrested the main accused and seven others for extortion and kidnapping. The arrested have been identified as Sunil Ram Shinde, a resident of Mumbai, Vasant Shyamrao Chavan, a resident of Mumbai, Francis Timothy D’Souza, a resident of Thane, Mayur Mahendra Shirke, a resident of Mumbai, Pradip Kashinath Kate, a resident of Dapodi, Shirish Chandrakant Khot, a resident of Navi Mumbai, Sanjay alias Niki Rajesh Bansal, a resident of Navi Mumbai and Dilip Tukaram Khandare, a resident of Bhosari, hailing from Kanoti (Buldhana).

 

The court sent them to police custody. Rafiq Allauddin Sayyad (38) lodged a complaint at the Wakad police station in this regard. Among the arrested is policeman Dilip Khandare, who is attached to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.

 

The complainant’s friend Vinay Sundarrao Naik, a resident of Tathawade was kidnapped by 7-8 people from Hotel Samadhan. Realising the seriousness of the case, the police started searching for the accused and the kidnapped person on the basis of CCTV footage and his mobile phone location. Meanwhile, the accused came to know that the police were trailing them. They released Vinay Naik in Wakad.

 

Naik told the police that the accused demanded Bitcoins and Rs 8 lakh from him. Sunil Shinde, Vasant Chavan, Francis D’Souza were arrested on the basis of technical analysis. They were interrogated. The accused admitted to the crime and told the police that they kidnapped Naik on the instructions of Pradip Kate and Dilip Khandare. Sanjay alias Niki Rajesh Bansal and Shirish Chandrakant Khot helped them in the kidnapping.

 

The accused admitted that they confined the victim to a room at Ekant Holiday, Koparwadi, Jalpada. A team of Wakad police arrested Kate, Bansal and Khot from a hotel in Hinjewadi.

After a sustained interrogation, the accused told the police that the crime was planned by policeman Khandare. Meanwhile, the police came to know that Khandare was coming to Bhosari, where he was arrested.

 

Details about Dilip Khandare

The main accused Dilip Khandare is a policeman attached to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. He was not on duty on the day the kidnapping took place. As a serving policeman, he has done courses such as office automation, cyber crime system, advanced cyber crime investigation technology, basic hardware and network information and mobile forensics.

 

While posted at the Pune cyber police Crime Department, Khandare came to know that Vinay Naik had Rs 300 crore in crypto currency. Hence, he planned to kidnap him so that he could get a lot of money and crypto currency.

 

Kidnapping plan

Khandare, along with other accused Shinde, Chavan, D’Souza, Shirke, Kate, Khot and Bansal plotted the kidnapping at Hotel Shital in Vadgaon Maval. Thus, Khandare called Vinay Naik to Hotel Samadhan in Tathawade and kidnapped him in a car (MH02EU1952). The other accused arrived in another car in Alibag, where they demanded money from Vinay.

 

However, Khandare came to know that the police were on their trail. They released Naik in Wakad. PSI Ganesh Torgal is investigating further.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of CP Krishna Prakash, Addl CP Sanjay Shinde, DCP Anand Bhoite and ACP Shrikant Disley. Senior PI Dr Vivek Mugalikar, PI Santosh Patil, PI Ramchandra Ghadge, API Abhijeet Jadhav, PSI Ganesh Torgal, police personnel Bibhishan Kanhekar, Babajan Inamdar, Rajendra Kale, Bapusaheb Dhumal, Vikram Kudal, Vijay Gambhire, Dipak Sable, Vandu Gire, Atish Jadhav, Pramod Kadam, Atiq Shaikh, Prashant Gilbile, Vikrant Chavan, Kalpesh Patil, Kaunteya Kharade, Ajay Phalle and Nutan Konde took part in the action.
