Eight arrested as woman sells her 4-year-old child in Pune, stages kidnapping

Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime | Eight people were arrested for selling a child in the city. The police cracked this case within 24 hours. Earlier, a woman lodged a complaint with the Kothrud police that her 4-year-old son was kidnapped.

The police started investigating after realizing the gravity of the situation. They stumbled upon shocking details of the case. The complainant woman turned out to be the accused in the case. She sold her son with the help of a middleman for Rs 1 lakh. The person who bought the child sold it to a couple for Rs 1.60 lakh.

The arrested have been identified as Priyanka Pawar, Jannat Bashir Sheikh, Reshma Sutar, Tukaram Nimble, Chandrakala Mali, Bhanudas Mali, Deepak Tukaram Mhatre and Sitabai Deepak Mhatre. Priyanka Pawar had lodged the kidnapping complaint at the Kothrud police station on Friday.

According to the police, Priyanka Pawar lodged the complaint that her 4-year-old son was kidnapped. The police sent nine teams from the Kothrud, Warje and Uttam Nagar police stations to search for the child. Meanwhile, the police got a tip-off that the kidnapped child was spotted with ‘Bangdewali Bhabhi’ in the area. Then Jannat Bashir Sheikh was arrested from Jalke Vasti, Kothrud.

Initially, Jannat Sheikh avoided direct answers to questions. Police personnel Akash Walmiki and Vishal Chowgule were, meanwhile, checking CCTV footage of the area. They saw a woman walking away with the child. Jannat Sheikh finally admitted to the crime after sustained interrogation.

It was proved that Sheikh conspired with Reshma Sutar and Priyanka Pawar, along with middleman Tukaram Nimble, a resident of village Varu, taluka Maval, and sold Neil Pawar for Rs 1 lakh to Chandrakala Mali and Bhanudas Mali, residents of Borlegaon, taluka Panvel, district Raigad.

The police arrested the Mali couple and interrogated them. They told the police that they sold the child to Deepak Mhatre and Sitabai Mhatre for Rs 1.60 lakh. The police arrested all accused and have got their police custody till February 9.

DCP Purnima Gaikwad said, “Accused Priyanka Pawar is separated from her husband and has two children. Her second child is one year old. She is unable to feed both children. Hence, she sold Neil with the help of Jannat Sheikh and Reshma Sutar and middleman Tuakaram Nimble. The police rescued the child from the Mhatre couple. They seized Rs 1.81 lakh from the accused. The child has been handed over to his father.

The action was taken under the guidance of CP Amitabh Gupta, Joint CP Dr Ravindra Shisve, DCP Purnima Gaikwadand ACP Rukmini Galande. A team comprising Senior PI Mahendra Jagtap, Senior PI Shankar Khatke, Sanil Jaitapurkar, API Balasaheb Bade, API Vrushali Patil, API Aarti Khetmalis, PSI Kajol Yadav, PSI Kisan Rathod, PSI Ratikant Koli, PSI Vikram Pawar, PSI Nagraj Birajdar, PSI Chaitanya Katkar, API Pawar, PSI Munde, Kshirsagar and police personnel from the Uttam Nagar, Warje and Kothrud police stations took part in this action.
