280 students of MIT cheated of Rs 58 lakh by giving fake degrees and marksheets

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Crime | An incident has come to light wherein students of Myers MIT University School of Telecom Management were told that they will get degree certificates according to Distance Learning Method and were given fake degree certificates and marksheets of Shri Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Vidyapeeth, Kanpur. The incident took place from 2014 to 2018 and it has come to light after eight years. Two hundred and eighty students were cheated of Rs 58 lakh 17 thousand on account of fees.

 

MIT division chief Jaideep Gulabrao Jadhav (43) has filed a complaint at the Kothrud police station. Accordingly, a case has been registered against Mahesh Ramesh Deshpande, a resident of Kothrud, Swapnil Sanjay Thackeray and Madhav Patil, both residents of Nagpur.

 

According to the police, the School of Telecom Management is located on the MIT campus in Kothrud. Swapnil Thackeray and Madhav Patil told them that they are connected with Shree Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University in Kanpur and will offer a degree course under the distance learning method. Some students took admission for this course by paying fees. Mahesh Deshpande was the coordinator for the course.

 

The organisation conducted the exam of students and sent results to Thackeray and Patil. Accordingly, they prepared fake degree certificates and marksheets of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University Kanpur and sent them to the institute and told them to hand them over to the students.

 

MIT received a deemed university status in 2017 and it started thinking about introducing a correspondence course. When the matter was discussed in detail, the case of cheating was discovered. Later, MIT set up an internal committee to probe the matter and now, a police complaint has been filed.

 

In this incident, 280 students have been cheated of Rs 58 lakh 17 thousand on account of fees.
