Proposal to give rebate in property tax to residents of included villages passed in General Body
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Corporation | All political parties unanimously passed a proposal in the General Body of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), that while collecting the property tax from residents of 23 villages included in the civic body, the villages should be treated as a separate zone. Until civic amenities are provided in these villages, the residents should be given a rebate of 15 pc to 27 pc in the property tax.
In 2017 and 2021, 11 and 23 villages have been included in the civic body respectively. The residents of these villages who were paying the tax to the gram panchayats, have to pay taxes to the civic body. Since the tax levied by the PMC is much more, the financial burden on the villages has increased. As per the rules, for the first year, 20 pc tax will be levied, 40 pc for second year and 20 pc more for each year will be charged. In the fifth year, 100 pc property tax will be levied.
However, since the tax amount is more and the fine is also high, it has created discontent in the villagers. The villagers have staged agitations on this issue and expressed their unhappiness to civic officials.
Meanwhile, a proposal to levy property tax on the residents of 23 villagers was tabled in the GB. Members of all parties said it will be wrong to collect property tax as per rules without providing amenities in the villages and a separate zone of 34 villages should be created and the villagers should be given a discount of 15 to 27 pc. The proposal was passed with the required changes. This information was given by BJP group leader Ganesh Bidkar.
In 1997, 34 villages had been included in the civic body and 11 villages were included in the PMC in 2017.
The residents of these villages have not been given any rebate in the property tax and it will be difficult to include all villages in a single zone. According to officials, it will be difficult to levy a uniform tax in all villages as the situation in each village is different.
The officials said that till the amenities are provided, a rebate can be given in one or two taxes but the decision will have to be taken at the highest level.
