Pune: Contaminated water being supplied to residents in Gokhale Nagar and Janwadi, health jeopardised

Pune: Health of residents in Gokhale Nagar and Janwadi is in danger as they are being supplied contaminated, muddy water with foul odour. Residents staying near Nana Tea Hotel opposite Janwadi Masjid, Ota Ghar and Ekta housing society have been getting such water for the past 10 days.

Sharukh Shaikh, a local resident, said, “Water pipelines in our areas are very old. Some of them have leakages. Sewage from nearby drainage lines gets mixed in the water pipeline. We are getting such dirty water. We are buying water currently.

Kedar Sathe, Deputy Engineer, Water Supply Department, PMC, was not available for comment.

Pravin Dongre, Area Head, Shiv Sena (UBT), said, “There are complaints that residents from Gokhale Nagar, Janwadi, Ota Ghar and Ekta society are getting contaminated water. I earnestly request civic officials to look into the problem since it concerns people’s health and hygiene. We will agitate if they fail to address it.”
