Pune: API demands Rs 5 lakh bribe to give clean chit to complaint, booked

Pune: An API has been booked for demanding Rs 5 lakh bribe to issue a clean chit on a complaint lodged against a person for securing a job by furnishing bogus documents.

API Chetan Chandrakant Thorbole (36), attached with the Lonikand Police Station, has been booked for demanding the bribe.

A 32-year-old man lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). According to the details, a complaint was lodged at the Lonikand Police Station for securing a job by submitting fake documents. API Thorbole, at Wagholi Police Chowky, was investigating the case. Thorbole demanded Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for giving a clean chit to him so that he would not face any issues in getting a job in the future.

The ACB verified the complaint on July 1, 4, 11 and 24. During the verification, Thorbole agreed to accept a Rs 1 lakh bribe. A trap could not be set later but it was proved that he had demanded the bribe. Finally, a case was registered at the Lonikand Police Station on Wednesday (July 31). DySP Madhuri Bhosale is investigating the matter.
